The unique, detailed, and long story or inspiration behind this piece (please note that art can mean something different to each person regardless of what it meant to the artist herself so please do not feel like you cannot connect to it uniquely):
This new piece is named “Mercy in the Vertical” or "Mercy."
It reminds me of a small room where I attended a lecture that took place weekly, although I don’t remember attending weekly. This was long ago.
Two of the four walls slanted inward by design. And everyone sat on the floor as there were no chairs, likely because of those walls and the size of the room. There were only legless chairs to position one’s back against so that sitting on the floor would be more comfortable. I forwent that and don’t remember why.
A woman, one of the handful of people that made up this gathering, brought one over to me, from wherever it or a collection of these back-only chairs were, for me to sit on.
And it felt so much better than what I defaulted to. I felt like I was given permission to rest. So, this is named “Mercy.”
Stacking and touching and depth and shadow—these are the elements I had in mind for this piece in particular.
And though not intentional, some of the shapes in this artwork remind me of that back-only legless chair.
