I have a black-and-white ink drawing of a strange, non-existent creature I drew years ago, going back to grade school and I'm now firmly over 30.

The creature is a swan with the horns of a gazelle and with what appears to be a fin on both its back and rear and a scalloped pattern along its neck.

What is interesting is that all these features appear both intricate and cohesive, as if there is some creature that indeed takes this form.

Thank God making the seemingly unrelated (aniconic art, which is common in Islamic art (aniconic art is art that is according to Merriam-Webster, symbolic or suggestive rather than literally representational: not made or designed as a likeness) and its opposite) connected as if their origins are one in the same is still something I'm doing, ages later.

I remember attending a halaqa, a class on Surah Maryam, where I vocally participated (I had suggested to the teacher, upon her asking, for us to cover this particular chapter).

And a woman who I had never seen before in the class decided to strike a conversation with me after it, and as one does, asked what I do for work. I don't remember exactly what I said but because I am currently in the process of essentially writing the instruction manual for a scientific invention and will inshaAllah (God willing) complete it soon, I probably indicated that my field of work is science or STEM. She responded that she had never met a scientist who was religious.

We carried on with what was a friendly and, even at one point, emotionally and spiritually profound conversation. What does this have to do with things that are unrelated or seemingly unrelated. To me nature is itself a creation. So, it is not at all unique to me for someone to be both a scientist and religious. Thankfully, this conclusion came from months of study and is therefore, one in which I'm confident.

Whereas now, as someone over 30, it makes no sense to me for a swan, given the environments in which it naturally exists, to have both a dolphin fin, another fin, and also the elegant horns of a gazelle.
