The unique, detailed, and long story or inspiration behind this piece (please note that art can mean something different to each person regardless of what it meant to the artist herself so please do not feel like you cannot connect to it uniquely):
Merriam-Webster defines cogitate (as a transitive verb) as such: to ponder or meditate on usually intently. And as an intransitive verb it defines it as to meditate deeply or intently.
This piece was created during a week where I realized how precise a certain language is and learned that even extending or shortening the same exact sound changes the meaning of a word. I had thought the extension of a sound was arbitrary and was shocked to learn that that extension was integral to the word. The slowing down that properly speaking such a language and properly learning it requires reminds me of meditation, of how unnecessarily slow it may seem. Of how long it may seem. Etc. Cogitate means to meditate deeply or intently; and there is something about my having to switch from whatever state I was in to one of slowing down and honing in that made time feel more tangible. Perhaps as different as holding water is to holding ice. May the muted, cool, and soothing tones in this piece help transitions to a still or meditative state.
